About the Course

Enter the mind of a game designer in our Unity Game Design Lab. This is an introductory course into the world of video game design focusing on: functionality, mechanics, and interactive design used to create engaging games. We will bring our character to life using C# object oriented programming in Unity. We will dive deeper into polishing our games with lighting, sound effects, power ups and last but not least building our Boss Bit. Think Bowser in Super Mario.

In this course, kids will learn to express their creativity through storytelling by creating art, particle effects and designing game ideas. We will be learning how to develop and launch games using UNITY- the world’s leading platform for creating and operating interactive, real-time 3D (RT3D) content. It’s what real game developers use.

This class will focus on digital design skills while learning how to produce 2-D pixel sprites for your very own video game. Students will take a deep dive into game design fundamentals like animations, character design, pixel art sprite creation, and Level Design. We will also explore the tools and techniques used by early game developers to create “gaming classics” and then explore methods they used that influence modern games today.

Students will walk away equipped with the knowledge and tools to publish a game prototype on for others to play and download. This is a great opportunity to grow your portfolio of design skills.
